Regarding the translation approach for the name "Foundling" - MephistoSatanDevil - 01-04-2026 Hello, regarding the translation of the name "Foundling," the protagonist in your mod, a discussion has arisen among translators. Therefore, we would like to hear your opinion as the author. Currently, our translation ideas are as follows: one is transliteration, which fails to convey the meaning that the character is an orphan who was found, making it simply more like a personal name; the other is free translation, which expresses the character's identity as someone who was found. The only drawback is that it doesn't quite resemble a formal name but rather a nickname with a slightly derogatory connotation. As the author, which translation approach do you prefer? RE: Regarding the translation approach for the name "Foundling" - Lava - 01-04-2026 I think lack of meaning is worse than making it slightly different. In Polish it's "Znajda" if I remember correctly, so "someone that was found" not exactly an orphan. It's okay if you change it and make it have some meaning, even if it won't be a literal one-to-one translation
RE: Regarding the translation approach for the name "Foundling" - MephistoSatanDevil - 01-04-2026 We have a candidate Chinese translation here, which roughly means "the child who was picked up/found." I wonder if this aligns with your vision? RE: Regarding the translation approach for the name "Foundling" - Lava - 01-04-2026 I think it's okay, bit you decide there is a more accurate option as you translate, feel free to replace the translated name with a new one. |
